A child dressed as Fuwa, mascot of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, presents a gift "Our Wishes" to a child wearing Haibao costumes.

Beijing is staging a series of cultural events at the Expo site, including performances, parades and displays of intangible heritage.

 The opening ceremony of Beijing culture week, the first of its kind among China's provinces and municipalities, took place yesterday at a square adjacent to the China Pavilion.

 Children dressed as Fuwa, mascot of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, presented painting and paper-cutting gifts to children wearing Haibao costumes at the ceremony, delivering the best wishes of Beijing for the Shanghai event.

 The week will conclude on May 8.
